Site assessment
We assess the size and visible shape of the boulder, its location, nearby structures and access. A preliminary estimate can often be prepared from photos, dimensions and the address sent via WhatsApp.
A large boulder does not have to remain an obstacle in your garden, driveway or construction project. Fixmate splits, reduces and removes large rocks in a controlled way, including from restricted-access locations. The work can be completed without blasting, making the method particularly suitable for residential gardens, areas close to buildings and other sensitive surroundings.
A boulder may be an attractive natural feature, but in the wrong place it takes up valuable space and makes the property difficult to use. It may block a parking area, terrace, pathway, retaining wall, fence, drainage line, water pipe or building foundation. Moving a large boulder in one piece is not always practical because it may weigh several tonnes and access to the site can be limited.
Fixmate solves the problem by reducing the boulder into controlled, manageable sections. A planned line of holes is drilled into the rock and hydraulic wedges are inserted. Pressure is increased gradually until the rock separates along the intended line. Because the method does not rely on impact or explosives, it can be used carefully near houses, garages, fences, pipes and planting areas.
Every job is planned around the site. When the rock only needs to be lowered to ground level, we can remove the exposed section. When the complete boulder interferes with excavation or construction, it is split into pieces small enough to lift, move or transport away.
The work can be limited to splitting only, or completed as a full service in which the broken rock is removed and the work area is left tidy and ready for the next stage.
We assess the size and visible shape of the boulder, its location, nearby structures and access. A preliminary estimate can often be prepared from photos, dimensions and the address sent via WhatsApp.
A suitable drilling line is created in the rock. Hydraulic wedges generate even pressure that splits the boulder in a controlled way without explosives.
Large sections can be split further until they are suitable for manual handling, compact machinery, an excavator or transport equipment.
Depending on the site, the rock pieces can be relocated elsewhere on the property or loaded for transport. The method is selected according to the available working space.
Broken rock can be transported away when the customer does not want to reuse it on the property. Transport and any receiving fees are agreed in the quotation.
After the work, loose stone and drilling debris are collected to the agreed extent. The area can also be prepared for the next stage, such as excavation or landscaping.
Removal is worthwhile when a boulder prevents planned work or makes the garden difficult to use. The earlier the rock is considered in a project, the easier it is to schedule and complete the other construction and landscaping stages.
When the full size or depth of the boulder is unknown, the work can begin by assessing the visible section. If necessary, soil is opened around the rock so that the splitting line and removal method can be planned safely.
Hydraulic splitting is designed for situations where substantial force is needed but blasting vibration, noise, protective measures and environmental risk should be avoided.
The fracture is guided by the drilling line. The boulder can be reduced in stages, allowing the surrounding garden, building and other structures to be carefully protected.
The method does not create a blasting pressure wave. Drilling is part of the work, but the overall process is generally calmer and easier to carry out in residential areas.
A boulder can be split in a back garden, behind a narrow gate or between buildings even when a large excavator or heavy drilling rig cannot reach the site.
Clear advance information makes the estimate faster. Send photos of the boulder from several angles, approximate width, length and height measurements, and the site address via WhatsApp. Also tell us whether a trailer, van or compact machine can reach the area, and whether you want the rock left on the property or transported away.
Based on the photos, we assess the most suitable method and any equipment required. At the site, we confirm the structure of the rock, plan the drilling line and secure the work area. Splitting continues until the boulder can be removed or has been lowered to the agreed level. Finally, the pieces are moved and the area is cleaned according to the quotation.
Send photos, dimensions, the address and a short description of what will be built in the area.
We assess the work method, time, transport and the need for any additional machinery.
We select a suitable workday and confirm the agreed costs before the work begins.
We split and reduce the rock, then relocate or transport the pieces as agreed.
The final cost depends on the size, material and location of the boulder, the exposed height, drilling required, access route and haul-away. A single easily accessible boulder is usually quicker to handle than a large rock embedded deep in the ground and surrounded by buildings, pipes or other structures that require protection.
Travel costs may be added for more distant locations. Any excavator, transport, receiving fees and other additional work are itemised in the quotation. VAT is always explained clearly in the quotation so that the total expected cost is known before work begins.

Not all rock needs to be transported away. The split pieces may be suitable for embankments, garden edging, planting structures, natural stone walls or landscaping. Reusing the material on the property can reduce transport and receiving costs.
When the material is not needed, the pieces can be loaded and transported away. Planning the haul-away includes the weight of the sections, vehicle access, the load-bearing capacity of the garden and the receiving location. This helps avoid surprises and allows the work to be completed efficiently as one agreed service.
Answers to common questions about the method, price, schedule and haul-away.
Yes. Most boulders in gardens or close to buildings can be split by drilling and using hydraulic wedges. The method creates a controlled fracture without explosives, a pressure wave or a large exclusion zone.
The usual labour rate is €50–70 per hour. The total price depends on the size and location of the rock, working space, haul-away and any additional equipment. Send photos and site details via WhatsApp for a more accurate estimate.
A smaller and easily accessible boulder can often be handled within one working day. A large, deeply embedded or difficult-to-access rock may require several splitting stages and more time.
In many cases, yes. Hydraulic splitting is particularly suitable when the rock is located close to a building or another structure that needs protection. The final method is always assessed from the site conditions and available photos.
Not necessarily. Splitting can be completed with portable equipment. An excavator may be needed when the pieces are heavy, the boulder is deeply embedded or soil must be opened around the rock.
Haul-away is available by agreement. The pieces can also be left on the property for landscaping or other garden work. The chosen option and costs are agreed before the job.
Yes. When complete removal is unnecessary, the exposed section can be reduced to the required level. This may be suitable beneath a lawn, paving or a shallow structural layer.
No. Drilling produces normal construction noise, but the hydraulic splitting itself is calm and does not create the sudden sound or pressure wave associated with blasting.
We work daily in Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, the wider metropolitan area and Uusimaa. By agreement, we also serve other parts of Southern Finland, including Lahti, Hämeenlinna, Turku, Pori and Tampere.
Send one close-up, one side view and one wider image showing the access route and nearby buildings. Include approximate dimensions, the address and whether you require haul-away.
Send photos of the boulder, approximate dimensions and the site address via WhatsApp. Also tell us whether you want the rock left on the property or transported away. You will receive a clear assessment of the suitable method and expected cost.
