Splitting a large rock
A garden rock or boulder is split into smaller sections in a controlled way so that it can be handled more safely.

We split and reduce large garden rocks and boulders using a controlled method without conventional blasting. When required, we can also move, load and transport the broken rock away.
A large rock in the garden can prevent the construction of a terrace, pathway, planting area, drainage system or another landscaping project. However, a whole boulder cannot always be lifted out. It may be too large, too heavy or located where an excavator or crane cannot reach.
Fixmate provides a practical complete solution for handling large rocks. A rock can be split, reduced into manageable pieces, moved aside or removed from the property completely. The service is always planned according to the customer’s goal and the conditions at the site.
The service is suitable for private homeowners, housing companies, construction companies, property owners and other customers who have a rock in a garden or worksite that needs to be removed or reduced.
A garden rock or boulder is split into smaller sections in a controlled way so that it can be handled more safely.
The rock can be reduced to the size required by the customer, for example to clear space for a pathway, terrace or construction project.
The broken pieces can be moved to an agreed location on the property or left for the customer to reuse.
When required, we arrange loading, transport and appropriate further handling of the rock pieces.
The whole rock does not always need to be removed. It can be lowered, shaped or reduced only in the required area.
Depending on the site, rocks can be reused in landscaping, planting areas or other custom garden solutions.
Broken rock pieces can be moved, loaded and transported away as agreed.
The rock is broken using a controlled method. The required holes are drilled and the rock is split mechanically or with hydraulic wedges. The purpose of the method is to divide the rock into smaller sections along planned lines without conventional blasting.
Controlled splitting is especially useful in residential areas, private gardens, close to buildings and at other sites where space is limited or surrounding structures must be considered carefully.
Not every garden can be accessed by a large excavator. The access route may be too narrow, the gate may be small or the rock may be located between a house, fence, terrace or planting area. Controlled rock splitting can be an effective solution at exactly these types of sites.
Before starting the work, we assess the size, shape and location of the rock as well as the surrounding structures. We also check how the equipment can be brought to the site and how the resulting rock pieces will be handled.
The work can often be completed even where heavy machinery cannot gain access.
The fastest way to receive an initial assessment is to send photos on WhatsApp.
Take one close-up photo of the rock, one photo from farther away and one photo of the access route. Include the location, the approximate size of the rock and whether you want the pieces left on the property or transported away.
The price is indicative. The final labour charge is always agreed based on the site, the method used and the scope of the work.
The quotation clearly states the price of the work and how VAT is handled. This means you know what the order includes before the work begins.
The final price of rock splitting can be affected by:
At a small site, the customer may only need the rock to be split. For a larger project, the rock may need to be drilled at several points and reduced into multiple pieces. The pieces can then be moved or transported away using separate equipment.
Send photos in advance so that we can assess the work as accurately as possible. If a reliable estimate cannot be provided from the photos, we can arrange a site visit when necessary.

In Helsinki, a rock may be located on a small urban plot, beside a building or in a narrow back garden where large machinery cannot fit. We assess sites throughout Helsinki and plan the work according to the available space.
In Espoo, the service is often needed in private gardens when building new terraces, pathways, planting areas and completing other landscaping work. A large garden rock can be reduced, moved or removed according to the customer’s plan.
In Vantaa, we help with both individual garden rocks and larger boulders. The work can be completed as splitting only or as a complete service including moving and transporting the rock pieces away.
Not every piece of rock needs to be transported away. Suitable pieces can be used for garden edging, planting areas, landscaping or other outdoor structures. This can reduce the amount of material requiring transport and give the natural stone a new purpose.
Tell us before the work begins if you would like to reuse the rock as part of your garden design. Where possible, the piece size and splitting method can then be planned according to the intended use.
After the rock has been removed, the area can be prepared for the next landscaping stage.
When required, you receive splitting, size reduction, moving, loading and transport from one provider.
